English Language Challenges

I feel that this semester using blogs, was the one that contributed the most to learn English: the increase in demand, such as not be allowed the use of translators, made the task much more difficult, but now that I feel full.

It was not easy to learn English at university, since, being honest, I do not like to learn grammar but nowadays I see the fruits of that effort.

It is not easy for me to learn languages in the conventional way with tests or audios. In fact, I wait until the last moment to finish all my English levels. However, this period has been the most entertaining and dynamic to learn English.

I am sure there are still many aspects to improve, especially grammar, and the conjunction in the appropriate tenses, but I feel that at least, speaking English, I can see an improvement.

Fortunately, my mom is an English translator, so I have the teacher at home, so my idea is to improve little by little my grammar, taking advantage of the fact that next year I have very few classes, it would not be bad to dedicate a few hours to a week for English, so who knows, I can leave my career with a very good level of English. The strategy of speaking in English at home is very used: we are 4 people who speak English (at different levels) so the interaction in the language is the usual.

In this last edition of my blog, I can only thank the teacher for his dedication and patience, thanks to his dedication, today I feel more qualified than before, to travel, or interact with native speakers of the English language. At least I understand, and they understand me.

Changes to my study programme

Well, although I am happy with the knowledge acquired in the career and the experiences shared with both teachers and colleagues, I think that in more than one aspect the ICEI leaves much to be desired:

The curriculum is an example, for those who entered 4 years ago, this one no longer responding to the demands and skills of the market. Different luck has run the three inferior generations to ours since they could live the contents change just in time, being able to have access to more multimedia knowledge.

The facilities of the institute: I think that they are good, although there are not many editing rooms, or a large radio department, it has everything necessary for the teaching of journalism. One of the main problems we have had as students throughout our career is related to the above, and is regarding with recording and photography equipment.

Unfortunately, we are too many students between the two careers, for the small amount of audiovisual equipment that we have. We have everything necessary, but the amount is insufficient. In addition, the teachers do not plan the use of the equipment as a whole, so the same delivery dates coincide, and the equipment are over quickly. Better planning or investing in more equipment is the solution.

A final assessment about my career, is related to the extension: it is understood that being "professional" should not last less than 10 semesters, the problem is that there are many days off in a week, so I would like those spaces were occupied by more specialized journalism classes.

My future holidays

For this holidays I got planned a huge adventure: with a group of friends we are going to a trip among all the south of Chile, we are travelling untill we still have time and energy. The duration of the journey is variable because it depends of a lot of factors, we hope it lasts at least one month, and we disposed of whole february for the realization of out voyage.

The journey begins in Santiago, leaving all together. “to the fate” some people would say, but that is exactly the idea: not expending money in locomotion and trust in the solidarity of the drivers to make us reach our destiny.

Everyone in the group are ex scouts, because of that its in our intentions to travel among the most of national parks possible of, because more than the city and the architectonic attractiveness that may have a determinated place we are more interested in being disconnected and in places that nature and peace are the main thing above everything else.

One of our main destinations on the route is “The Conguillo National Park” placed near Temuco city in the Araucanía Región. The reservation counts with beautiful lakes, enormous paths but, most of all, the most interesting thing is that in this park there are placed the oldest Araucarias in the country!

Here I leave a panoramic photo of the beautiful landscape of the park, so that they are motivated to visit it in the future

My Hobbie

There are not many things in life that passionate me as much as being in contact with nature, and that is exactly the main problem of living in the city: because of our Gray routine, filled of cars and contamination it makes hard make time for ourselves.

Because of that one of my favourite hobbies is climbing mountains. I reached this activity because all along my childhood and adolescence I was scout at my old school. Nowadays, along a group of Friends we have maturated that nice feel of freedom and every month we join together to make some climbing in Santiago’s surroundings.

It’s a really hard activity, because to practice it you need a lot of energy, and most of all, force of will, because after a bunch of hours walking, the only thing left is perseverance. For climbing hills and mountains there are not necessary a lot of implements, essentially some good shoes, comfortable clothes and some food and water, necessary for the activity.

The last mountain that we climbed was the “Provincia” the last Wednesday, and it was extremely intense: we walked for 12 hours and a total of 18 kilometres, which 9 of them were on ascent. Also, the wind followed us all along the journey, but at the end everything has its reward: the landscape was spectacular and the opportunity to blow tension off, be one with the peace of the environment are the main earnings of this activity.
